In Katsina state, two fully loaded trucks carrying contraband have been taken over by bandits.
The criminals took over the trucks while they were being transported into Nigeria, according to Dalha Wada Chedi, the Nigerian Customs Service's (NCS) Kaduna Area Commander, who verified the incident.
He claims that a few days earlier, the smugglers decided to carry the illegal products through the forest close to the Batsari area in Katsina State, and that's when the bandits took possession of the merchandise.
Chedi, of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone B in Kaduna, revealed Wednesday at a news conference that smugglers have been using dangerous routes watched by bandits to bring goods into the nation illegally.
Less than a day earlier, we learned that two trucks carrying contraband had been taken by bandits inside the forest.
He said, "We also understand that the bandits also seized a J5 vehicle around that axis."
The comptroller emphasized that the country's borders were extremely porous, making it difficult for customs officers to monitor the area, especially in places where criminals were concentrated.
The comptroller declared that all illegal borders in regions like Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi would be sealed off by customs in coordination with other security agencies.
In the meantime, the Nigeria Police Force reported that 40 people detained in the Niger Delta for oil theft and economic sabotage had filed indictments against businesses and individuals, including overseas accomplices.
According to the Force, two ships carrying pilfered crude oil were also stopped in Southern-Ijaw, Bayelsa State, in the Ogbogoro Oil Field, Brass Area, and Ekeni Area.
In a statement released on Saturday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force's public relations officer, stated that the arrest was made in cooperation with the military and other pertinent security authorities.
